Tech BASIC Binaries GVG / 27 January 1987 This directory contains several binaries for use with HP-UX Technical BASIC: * A set of binaries to handle mice and HIL tablets. * A binary to emulate the "wait" command (the BASIC command has a bug). * A binary to emulate the "on_timer" command (ditto). * A binary to manipulate windows. * The latest version of the hpil driver, "hpil.b.", which works much better than the one currently being shipped with release BASIC. Consult the appropriate document (or directory) for instructions on the binaries. (No need for instructions on the hpil driver - just replace the old one on the BASIC utilities disc with it.) Note that some of the binaries specify use of the prep_sys_5.0 patch, which is included in this directory, and is described following: prep_sys_5.0 ************ Prep_sys_5.0 fixes known defects in the HP-UX operating system release 5.0 for the Integral PC. You may invoke prep_sys_5.0 by pressing the start function key, [F1], while the program name is highlighted in the PAM display. Or you may simply type in the name prep_sys_5.0. In this mode the program will execute quietly. There is no harm in running the program repeatedly. Prep_sys_5.0 will check to see if the defect fixes have been put in place and will do nothing if its work has already been done. Prep_sys_5.0 will require some system memory to put the defect repairs into place. This memory used will not be recovered at any time during the operation of the Integral. To obtain more feedback from prep_sys_5.0 invoke it with the -v option. For example, type "prep_sys_5.0 -v" into PAM to run prep_sys_5.0 with feedback. Prep_sys_5.0 will then provide feedback about the particular defect fixes placed in the operating system. The following is a list of all the operating system defects effected by prep_sys_5.0. 1: Two changes are made to the getitimer system call. 2: The setitimer system call is corrected. If this fix is not installed, calls to setitimer may set a timeout that never happens. 3: The exit routine is changed to remove all timeouts set by the setitimer call during program termination. 4: The rtprio system call may return an incorrect return value. 5: Shared memory is not necessarily zeroed when it is first attached to a process. 6: Corrects defects in the AGPOLYMVWRW ioctl call to the AG/window driver. 8: The internal trap2 handler is fixed to correctly save and restore registers. Only the first two problems are of importance to Tech BASIC users - and then only if they use the timer/wait binaries.
