          Sync causes all information cached in memory by the
          performance of reads on files to be invalidated.  This will
          force any subsequent file system accesses to go out to the
          physical medium.

          This command should be used whenever is becomes imperative
          to determine in a non-destructive manner if the physical
          medium holding a file is available to the system.  sync .
